Should you be allowed to marry your cousin? Three quarters of Britons say no. The health implications of marriage between first cousins are coming under increased scrutiny in the UK and across Europe, with babies born to such couples having a higher likelihood of suffering from genetic disorders.

  2. “Cousin marriage is more common among some South Asian minority communities in the UK, with **a recent Born in Bradford study finding that almost half (46%) of mothers from the Pakistani community in three inner-city Bradford wards were married to a first or second cousin**. This is borne out by the results, with a poll of ethnic minority Britons finding that 39% of British Pakistanis and Bangladeshis say cousin marriage should be legal – although 47% of this group still say the practice should be prohibited.”

  3. Can we get one of the people who said ‘yes’ on Question Time please…

  4. It’s stated that the aim is to prevent genetic disorders suffered by babies born to such couples. Will criminalising such marriages be enough? Won’t people who really want to procreate with their cousins just do so anyway, but not get married? Why not allow such marriages, but criminalise the reproductive part?

Aside from that, is “first cousin” really the perfect place to draw the line? What scientific evidence do we have that says second cousins are definitely ‘OK’, etc.?

  5. How long will it be until someone comes on and mentions Queen Victoria like that wins the argument? It was about 2 comments down on the United Kingdom sub.

  6. Who is it that keeps bringing this up, like who in the UK wants to marry their cousin?

  7. Why would you want to marry your cousin is the real question

  8. I knew someone who married their first cousin years ago and they had to have tests to make sure their children wouldn’t be disabled etc. I think maybe people should cast their nets a bit wider

  9. Has anyone ever been asked to be one of these polls that they think are newsworthy?

  10. It’s a declining problem as the younger generation are less likely to marry a cousin as was revealed the last time this topic appeared. And the time before that. And that.

But Nigel’s Numpties are disappointed as their latest opportunity to try and stir up hate fizzled out, so out comes one of their old favourites.

  11. Would making it illegal for 1st cousins really be enough? Wouldn’t 2nd cousins also have a high risk of any kids they had being disabled in some form? 3rd cousins probably less so, but there would probably still be a risk.

  12. Yes you should, why not.

Should you be allowed to have biological children with your cousins?

    **Fuck no**

  13. Well, that took a while for the health department to know the reason to why marrying your cousin would be a hard grossly pass.

  14. Too much Game Of Thrones for some people out there.

  15. I propose an ideal solution, we allow cousin marriage, but only between homosexual couples. It’s a win-win and everyone will be happy.

  16. Bruh we have free healthcare. You’d have to be inbred to support it.

  17. I think many of you underestimate how common cousin marriage once were, and I’m not talking about just Pakistanis.

  18. If the reason to ban cousin marriage is to reduce the number of genetic disorders, should we also ban people known to be carrying genetic disorders from marrying?

  19. This was never an issue until we started mass importing a particular group who brought other issues too. Sad times that our political capital is now being spent cleaning up the mess rather than focusing on improving quality of life. The globalists have a lot to answer for.

  20. See the reason it was never made illegal in the UK, or in most western nations. Is because cousin marriage is simply too rare to be a societal problem. Further, the dangers is somewhat reduced if it happens very rarely, say once every 5+ generations within a family.

But if 20% of the population, repeatedly wed cousins and second cousins. Then it very quickly become a societal problem, and the risk of deformities quickly go up.

  21. But it’s their “culture”
