Quite a hefty dent in expected revenue for TfL. Apparently buses are struggling along with the DLR due to new train delays. I wonder how it'd look without the amazing success of the Lizzie line?

  1. Can’t wait for fares to rise even more to make up for this. And the cycle continuing ad-infinitum.

  2. Wonder how much of this is a pivot to cycling which is massively up?

  3. The prices are too high, I either drive or cycle now as it’s cheaper, quicker and less dingy than underground

  4. People are working from home, don’t forget the fare dodgers !

  5. So many people jump on the bus and don’t pay.

Sometimes the bus is so full, they don’t open the front doors, so people jump on at the exit. But there is no way to pay the fare.

Even if the bus is not full, a large number of people jump on any way.

There needs to be bus inspectors to tackle this. Khan sacked them all. There should be a way to buy a ticket at the back, like there used to be, before Khan removed them.

  6. The bus service has been decimated.

Bus lanes removed from key river crossings like Vauxhall and Waterloo bridges, and from main roads like Regent street and some roads near St Paul’s.

The Streatham LTN was an unmitigated disaster, with dozens of buses stuck one behind the other, yet Lambeth council kept denying there was any issue, till it got so bad that TFL and Khan had to intervene.

The number of minicabs has ca. doubled in a decade, and the most central roads are full of minicabs driving around empty looking for passengers, making congestion a nightmare for everyone, including bus users.

  7. If they made it cheaper, more people would travel back in to work, which in turn would boost the economy in the city.

  8. Unsurprising given the service is worsening. Dirtier, less frequent, fare dodging routine.

  9. >TfL had budgeted for journey growth of six per cent but actually saw just 0.9%.

I know there are a few suggestions as to why growth was lower than expected here already.

But it’s entirely possible they’re just bad at predicting the future and budgeted for a rise that wasn’t going to happen.

It would be interesting to know where the 6% extra was supposed to come from.

  10. Most expensive public transport in the world and they wonder why, absolute 🤡

  11. Put the fucking fares down, it’s insane, my office allows to to work from home precisely to save money on transports you earn an extra £2-3k just by avoiding trains and tube

  12. Costs me £30 a day to get to work in zone 2 by train/tube from home counties, or about £10 in petrol. Driving also saves me about 30mins to an hour even with traffic.

  13. Prices are too high and trains especially on the jubilee line are far too packed

  14. We come back to London few months ago. For us, as we also got baby, it’s just easier and almost same price to use Zipcar then tube. Especially as it’s just few tube stops but different zone

  15. The tube is literally too expensive now.

An example (while not perfect) is the Toronto TTC (yes I know there are two and a bit lines) which costs $3.30/£1.77 for a single journey on *all* transport subway, bus and streetcar (tram) now you have a 2 hour window across all transport so you can make any journey on different transport for that price.

Now London has multiple different peak and off peak services which are worse for you if you frequently use it. Average single fair at around £2.90/$5.40 for a single journey. If you have to get a bus or get off or travel again your paying again.

Just makes it incredibly expensive to make a journey.

I also feel this is slowly killing peoples ability to socialise.

  16. Just keep whacking the fares, ULEZ & CC up, that will do it

  17. I was going to go into town tonight, but the lizzy was down again.

  18. I suppose I’m part of the problem, I Lime everywhere these days and it’s just so much more convenient. Yeah there is a parking problem with them and something better needs to be done about it, but it’s just a nicer way to get around the city.

I realised last winter I didn’t get sick at all and that’s probably down to not needing to get the public transport and be in close proximity to other people coughing and spewing everywhere. I don’t miss the transport and I certainly won’t when it’s sweltering in the Summer.

  19. Good! Maybe they’ll stop paying their train drivers so much money now.

  20. Well maybe don’t expect shit that isn’t yours.

I expect Elon musk to give me 20 million quid. Doesn’t mean he has to.

  21. Literally I mean, I used get the tube/bus all the time then realised it’s literally nearly always faster for me cycle to where I’m going

  22. The Tories removed the central government funding (unlike every single other capital city transport network in the entire fucking developed world) so TfL has to cover it’s costs from (mainly) fare revenue and it’s just not possible to make fares cheaper.

There is nothing stopping Labour from reinstating the funding but even if they could find the money (which lets face it isn’t abundant right now) it would be political suicide as everyone outside London would turn on them immediately for giving money to the capital

  23. I’ve been Limeing to work instead, with the month pass it’s cheaper to Lime than tube for my commute.

  24. They promote cycling. So yes its normal and what we want.

No one want to get their lungs poluted with brake dust

  25. Maybe lower prices so people can use transport…

But then again the big wigs just keep upping the prices….. That will get more people to use the service!!

  26. I went into London for 2 days via heathrow for a concert 5 mins away from my hotel and came home to a £64 bill from TfL…

  27. Santander cycles saving me 600 quid a year. Stick a fucking dock in Archway, and let’s shave off another 200 quid.

  28. Khan has literally built endless cycle lanes and super highways everywhere. Fares are up a bit, although not by horrendous amount it must be said.

I think this is partly because people dont want to travel in as much or are taking bikes everywhere.

Personally, I have completely cut out the tube from my commute over the past two years. I take a 25-minute walk to the office from the station instead. Or catch the cheaper (also free due to hopper) bus. On occasion, if I’m in a real rush, I’ll rent a forest bike.

There is a noticeable slow burning acceptance to wfh amongst most now also.

Im unsure why they predicted such high growth.

  29. London’s public transport fares are higher compared to cities like Berlin, New York, Barcelona, Washington DC, Milan, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, and Seoul.

For instance, a one-day ticket in Tokyo’s metro costs £4.23, while a similar ticket in London can cost up to £15.30.

Now there are multiple viable alternatives such as rentable cycles everywhere, is it time to rethink the pricing?

I doubt it, a more prudent idea would be to increase the amount of Boris Bike stations to actually compete with Forest and Lime.

  30. Maybe reduce prices on Mondays and Fridays by 50% to get around the WFH drag?

The city is so dead thise days now as everyone seems to come in Tuesday to Thursday, a far cry from a decade ago when the streets and pubs were notably busier in the afternoons.
