Several killed in Ukraine as Moscow and Kyiv trade fire overnight • FRANCE 24 English

Absolutely. Millions of Ukrainians here have uh have experienced one of the worst nights that we’ve had since the beginning of the full-scale invasion here in Kiev in terms of the amount of explosions that were heard. Also, uh the intensity of what we’ve heard um uh last night here in the city center, we could hear drones flying really low before being intercepted for those who were uh which were intercepted. And so a lot of explosions, not a lot of sleep for millions of people here. You’ve mentioned there’s a number of people who died in Kiev region uh when uh debris or missiles or or drones crashed uh of missiles or drones crashed into their houses. So uh there are civilians victims of those strikes and not only here in Kiev but also elsewhere in the country in the western part of the country in the region of Melnitki. A number of people uh died in Topill an industrial site an industrial facility was hit by a missile. We’re still counting uh the amount of damage. We’re still assessing the amount of damage that has been caused. But certainly seen from the ground, it’s very difficult for Ukrainians, for journalists witnessing uh what’s happening to see any sign that Russia really is willing to uh to gear towards a ceasefire to work on a peace memorandum as it seems to be continuously targeting civilians, civilian infrastructures uh every night with drones, with uh missiles, missiles which are says the uh Ukrainian authorities more difficult to intercept because they have been updated uh so as to be more lethal uh so as to be uh uh more difficult to intercept to uh to spot uh when they are flying towards the targets. Meanwhile, Emanuel, the past few days have also seen scenes of joy in Ukraine as prisoners return home. Tell us about some of the families that you know who’ve been reunited. Uh well indeed there have been uh there has been relief for uh 694 families so far. Those are the families who got their loved one back since the beginning uh of this exchange. It is the major ex exchange. It is the biggest since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine in 2014. Uh there are uh you know for example there was a father who came back from captivity. uh he uh his daughter had been in occupied territory held against her will there and she managed to come back also in Ukraine and both of them uh who could find uh there the grandmother of the daughter the mother of the uh soldier who came back from captivity so they could be reunited and a parallel to those returns there are also thousands of families who are still awaiting any news from their relatives it is believed that over 8,000 soldiers Ukrainian soldiers are still held in Russian captivity in appalling conditions. Added to that, 16,000 civilians at least are also in uh Russian uh jails. And of course, there’s the fate uh the unknown fate of uh at least 20,000 Ukrainian children who have been deported uh by Russia, forcibly uh deported. And of course, the Ukrainian government is asking for all of those people uh to return. The Ukrainian government also asked for for an all for all exchange of prisoners which Moscow has so far declined.

Russian strikes killed at least 13 people in Ukraine overnight to Sunday (May 25), as Kyiv and Moscow traded fire amid an ongoing major prisoner swap, where each side is expected to return 1,000 people. Russian authorities meanwhile reported that a dozen drones flying towards Moscow had been downed. FRANCE 24’s Emmanuelle Chaze tells us more.

  1. Why do soldiers hide in the bunkers and leave children outside

Everytime I hear children died but never heard about Azov soldiers

  2. And how many Ukrainian drones hit Russia the night before ? Does Ukraine want ceasefire and peace memorandum if it continually attacks Russian civilians ?

  3. Speaking of captivity, – how many Russian civilians are held captive in Ukraine? Why not talk about that, you «journalists »? 😅

  4. Lavrov is stalling, put him back in his stall.

  5. The pictures show young men of fighting age busy on their phones what are they doing there when their brothers are dug in the trenches? Who is responsible for conscription ? How much did these young men pay to be spared the cruel life of dombas and enjoy the comfort of kyiv

  6. "Boots on the ground and planes in the air " UK PM Starmer's words during the Coalition of the Willing sideshows 😂😂😂😂

  7. France, the UK and Canada should be ashamed. While threatening Israel that's hitting their enemy hard they want to sanction it yet they are failing to deal with Russian missiles in Ukraine. They want Netanyahu to behave like Zelensky. Leave on promises and look at them as saviours.

  8. WE THOUGHT UKRAINE 🇺🇦 IS WINNING BUT NO TROPHY?
    NATO VS RUSSIA 🇷🇺.
    EU VS RUSSIA 🇷🇺
    🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇨🇦 VS RUSSIA 🇷🇺
WITH OVER 28,000,00 DEADLY SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA 🇷🇺 BY THE COLLECTIVE WEST ,G7 ,, GULF STATES …
WHY IS RUSSIA 🇷🇺 STILL EXISTING?

  9. Zelensky wanted this, Ukrainians sent Russians 1000 drones so Russians sent a bigger present. A Russians hit military site so the media needs to stop lying

  10. From Pakistan 🇵🇰 we strongly request permanent ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Between Gaza and Israel. Humans are suffering on both sides. Issues must be resolved with dialogues. War is not a solution.

  11. At the beginning of the 2008 Gaza War, Moscow attacked Israel in a tone that emphasized its desire to stop the war immediately. Israel sent Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni the next day, carrying billions and a new alliance deal with Putin, instead of Europe. Since that day, Moscow has been on the rise while the world is suffering from bankruptcy. The evidence is that Moscow does not object to Israel at all.
