Sir David Stirling OBE. Founded the modern SAS. Led the North African campaign during WW2 until his capture in 1943. Despite spending the rest of the war in captivity he attempted multiple life risking escape attempts and never gave up hope.
Undoubtedly changed the structure of the British army, attempted to overthrow the Gaddafi regime in the 1970's. Stirling never stopped, and he certainly left his imprint.

He also tried to overthrow the British government and was a cunt in regards to trade unions judging by his Wikipedia page.
Seemed like quite a complex character
My primary school headmaster served with Stirling in the LRDG and later the SAS.
Did he not also:
– found a private military contractor (ie. a mercenary group) that supported and propped up brutal regimes in the developing world during the post war era?
– form a covert group with the intention of undermining trade unions during the 1970s?
He crops up in the Adam Curtis documentary “The Mayfair Set” – a contemporary of the likes of James Goldsmith and Lord Lucan.
Definitely not my kind of hero.
Why does his grave look like shit if he died in 1990? Would have thought it would still be fairly new looking.
