  1. I had no idea the station was even close to opening. This is great news, hopefully they can finish the one in the village soon.

  2. At 08:26 on Sunday, 18 May 2025, I boarded the first ScotRail train to call at the new Hairmyres railway station [1], approximately 600 metres west of the old railway station [2]. This photograph is of the first train arriving at the station. As part of the East Kilbride Enhancements Project [2][3], Scotland’s Railway, South Lanarkshire Council and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport have funded the development of the expanded station, which includes significant electric vehicle charging provisions, active travel improvements and a new bus interchange on the site. The station had to be relocated because the old station footprint was too small.

The new station has two platforms, with a footbridge connecting platform two for trains heading towards East Kilbride. Platform one for trains headed to Glasgow Central is accessible through the ticket barriers in the station building. Inside the station building, there are also ticket machines, accessible toilets, and baby-changing facilities.

I took a video of the station opening up at 07:45, giving a detailed tour before the first train, riding the first train to Busby and returning on the second train to call at the station [4]. Then, I took a video of the return journey from the station to East Kilbride [5] and videos of subsequent full journeys onboard the reinstated service between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride [6][7][8]. I also took videos of full journeys on the Glasgow Subway in both directions [9][10].

  3. Looks like a massive upgrade. Shame they’re still sending the shitey old 156’s down the line.

  4. New station looks great but the parking at the old station was £2 for the day and from what I’ve heard it’s now £5 at the new place? Not so good.
