A new official portrait of President Donald Trump was unveiled on Monday, with notable differences from his last.

Newsweek reached out to the White House Monday for comment via email.

Why It Matters

Trump’s official portraits taken during both his terms in the White House have sparked widespread discussions on social media.

During his first term, the president’s picture showed him smiling, and the lighting was bright. Comparatively, during his second term, the president has taken a more serious tone for his official photos.

The president has also rearranged some artwork within the White House during his second term in office, most notably adding his infamous “fight” photo, taken after his assassination attempt in July 2024, to the collection, which can now be seen hanging on the wall.

What To Know

Monday’s new portrait, shared on X, formerly Twitter, by the Trump War Room account, shows him wearing a blue suit and red tie, looking more directly at the camera than his first, while sporting a serious but even-toned expression.

The lighting of the new portrait seems to be a bit darker, with light predominantly illuminating the middle of his face. The background of the new portrait is all black.

In his last portrait, the president was wearing a blue jacket and blue tie. In the background of the photo, an American flag could be partially seen along with another object on the right side that is brown in color.

The lighting of the previous portrait was brighter compared to Monday’s photo. The president’s head was also turned slightly, and his facial expression was more serious, with one eyebrow raised.
