  1. Oh so now you can both get arrested for blasphemy AND get stabbed by the people who don’t tolerate other people’s opinion about your imaginary fairy god
Nice to see the UK protect “its own people”

  2. I remember this case. A man burned a Quram and one member of the embassy of Turkey came with a knife and tried to kill him.

The man that burned some paper goes to jail.

What happened to the man with the knife and his attempt to murder?

  3. Seems like a made-up non-story. It’s certainly not a blasphemy law… that seems straight-up false.

I’d equate this to the nudity laws in the UK: if you want to be naked in your own garden, you’ve just as much right to do it there as you do to have a big old book bonfire.

However, if you start whipping your dick out in front of kids, you’re going to jail. If you’re burning a religious book just to aggravate the religious out in public… I dunno, maybe get a performance art permit or sth.

  4. Conservatives: We stand for religious freedom!

    Also Conservatives: Not yours, obviously.

  5. Before I even opened the article I already knew which religion he was prosecuted for offending

  6. Ah good, I was waiting for the Americans to get involved in the discourse around this.

The guy went to an embassy with the explicit intention to provoke violence and cause trouble. People get arrested for less at football games.

Incitement is not protected speech in this country and you’d save yourselves a lot of trouble just accepting that Britain always has and always will view free speech differently to Americans (who live in a country that is banning books and attacking the freedom of expression on college campuses).

  7. Clickbait propaganda article made to satisfy the far right. This is hate speech law not blasphemy and it is nothing new.

  8. Religion seems to be the folly of our society. Each time we get closer to a proper structure and governance of the people.. more simply seem to step up with their hearts of corruption and dig deep into their bag of fantasy novels turned cult.

This “belief” or “faith” effectively blinds entire groups of people to reality. I do not look forward to how this will affect the world’s current political power struggle.

How is it that our geopolitical stance is still controlled by Abrahamic faiths… Quite disappointed… But not like I matter anyways
