German and Portuguese police have been searching abandoned properties near Praia Da Luz in Portugal, where Madeleine went missing 18 years ago. The teams were seen using shovels, pickaxes and chainsaws to clear dense vegetation and dig near a derelict building.
Fresh searches for Madeleine began in countryside a few miles from Praia da Luz on Tuesday, with firefighters spotted pumping water to drain a well.

Headline designed to make it look like there’s a significant development. Newspaper gets away with it by putting inverted commas around the word evidence. Absolute trash journalism.
They’ve taken samples, it doesn’t mean they’ve found anything. They took samples when they dug near the reservoir a few years back, and after analysing them it turned back nothing.

How are the German police unable to charge CB with more crimes from all the drives and cp they found? I thought they had unearthed home made stuff of his under a dead dog or something? Absolutely baffling that it seems like they now need a 20 year old body to keep him in jail. I’d really like to see this case solved but the whole thing is very odd.

I mean, no matter what you think happened I’m sure we can all agree it is 18 years too late.
Always bothered me why they released a much younger looking Madeleine, when they had access to more recent photographs, especially those taken on the holiday where she does look different. If the government had not interceded by giving a government PR guy, backed by lawyers, more information could have been uncovered. By having the friends all called together to go over the testimonies with the PR guy and all sticking with supposed timelines, before they were interviewed by UK police seems dodgy. Listening to those tapes, despite the meeting beforehand, really prompts some questions. Money should be spent elsewhere on other cases, as this one was tainted from the start. If this guy is found guilty, great if it’s done with concrete evidence, rather than just to tick a box. If the British newspapers were allowed to print the truth way back, rather than dilute certain points, there could have been answers and consequences rather than just whitewash some behaviour.

I went to Portugal shortly after she disappeared. At that time everybody got a text on their phone on arrival asking them to keep a look out for any evidence. I remember flying over the Country and all you could see for miles and miles were cliff edges. The whole place is just endless areas where you could dump a body. The whole thing is really sad.
ffs, it has almost been two decades since a pair of bad parents fucked up parenting, and in that time quite literally thousands of other children have gone missing and not been found.
