On June 5–7, the Chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee Remigijus Motuzas, will play host to delegations led by Inara Mūrniece of Latvia, and Marko Mihkelson of Estonia.

“We are continuing the beautiful tradition of cooperation between the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Baltic parliaments and this time we are meeting in Lithuania to discuss security and defense topics that are important for our Baltic region in this turbulent period marked by geopolitical challenges. Our countries, as well as we, the Foreign Affairs Committees, act unanimously on all issues. Together, we are preparing joint political statements on the freedom of Ukraine, a just peace, and the responsibility of those responsible for this aggression. Cooperation between the Baltic states, as well as cooperation with the Nordic countries, is of great value,” said Motuzas, ahead of the meeting.

The meeting will aim not only to discuss security, defense, and foreign policy issues relevant to the Baltic region, but also to share national experience, coordinate joint parliamentary diplomacy actions in the international arena, and strengthen parliamentary cooperation.

The meeting of the members of the foreign affairs committees of the Baltic parliaments is an event held annually in a different Baltic state, designed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation in the field of foreign policy. Last year, the meeting took place in Estonia.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Marko Mihkelson said the relations between the Committees are characterised by intensive and close cooperation towards common goals, the most important of which are the victory of Ukraine in the war of aggression launched by Russia, and the strengthening of deterrence and defence capabilities in Europe.

Geopolitical challenges will be discussed with the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Kęstutis Budrys. The second part of the working meeting will be dedicated to discussing strengthening security and defence, and the situation of defence industry in the European Union. Simonas Šatūnas, Head of the Cabinet of European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, will be the keynote speaker at this discussion.

At the end of the meeting, the delegations of the Foreign Affairs Committees will visit Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf together with Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Dovilė Šakalienė.
