There have been 30 White House Press Briefings by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt so far (not counting gaggles, comments outside the White House, etc.).

I wanted to know: WHO is this administration talking about? Only Leavitt's words are used in the name count. The only thing filtered out, of course, is the President himself.

  1. I think what would be really insightful is comparing this to other administrations. For example, the first 30 days under Biden or Trump’s first term. Did they talk about prior Presidents more, less, or the same as Trump’s press secretary namedrops Biden? My naive guess is that this Trump administration is more fixated on Biden than Biden was on Trump, or Trump 1 was on Obama – but the data would bear that out, and intuition is often wrong.

  3. Briefing transcripts are all publicly available and I used Python to analyze and Datwrapper for the bar chart.

    P.S. Of the 30 Briefings, 25 of them bring up former President Biden by name. The right coined the term TDS, or “Trump Derangement Syndrome” when the media couldn’t stop talking about Trump, but I would wager this could be called BDS by most standards.
