    Although India is not a G-7 member, it has regularly been invited since 2019. The invitation comes after a period of diplomatic tension, which began in September 2023 when then-Canadian PM Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, claims that India strongly denied.

    This renewed engagement also aligns with India’s rising global stature. The IMF projects that India will surpass Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by March 2026, although its per capita income remains low.

    Carney’s office has not yet issued a public statement on the invitation.

  6. Don’t do it Modi. They are not trustworthy. We will be backstabbed sooner than later. Increased wealth of ambani and adani is not worth it.

  7. I saw a fair bit of discussion when it seemed he wasn’t invited about how Modi wouldn’t go anyway because of “Security concerns.” I’m glad those concerns suddenly went away now that it turns out he is invited.
