Croatia: Tourism boom takes its toll on pristine coastline • FRANCE 24 English

Croatia has seen a surge in tourism recently thanks to its pristine waters, rocky coastline, and more than a thousand inlets and islands. Last year alone, more than 20 million people visited the Balkan nation, which stretches along the Adriatic Sea. However, experts are concerned by the impact on the environment and marine life, especially in places like Sakarun Beach where tourism has soared, and are calling for urgent action.

  1. I was just in Croatia 2 days ago in a 5 star hotel and it was more expensive then Cannes last year 😀. So think about it where to spend your money

  2. Il y a 100 ans Saint-Tropez était aussi un petit village de pêcheurs, comme le reste de la Côte d'Azur !

  3. since croatia has the euro, i love to go there ❤ I hope more countries will have euro too, so we will be able to visit other places like georgia 😍

  4. Just ask the Americans how they are doing at Waikiki beach in Hawaii which used to be a swamp before being turned into a totally artificial but popular beach.

  5. Tourism also changes us locals. It makes us into arrogant as**oles. It stops us from looking at tourists as people. Realistically it's not a novelty anymore just being a tourist – because tourism has become a wholesale commercial industry. Even tourists admit that they want the sandy beach as part of the package. Hence they don't care about local interests or culture. All they care about is what was sold to them. So there's a complete disconnect from local way of life.
In such a climate when fraudster taxis over charge for their services, that then also becomes either a form of revenge or indifference towards tourists.
This problem is commonly known as the tragedy of the commons! You should look it up..
