Yesterday I parked my car at the parking space of a lake, and when I came back I discovered there was a prominent dink. We just got the car less than a year and I m a bit bummed. What s the usual way to proceed – do I just count myself unlucky or try to file for insurance claim to get this fixed? For hit and run like this, how do I make sure I dont get penalised for carelessness?

Maybe ask your insurance?
Do you have „Parkschaden“ coverage?
My insurance has a specific coverage for damages while parked
Junk it and buy a new one.
You should file a Police report for damage by an unknown vehicle.
If not covered by your insurance, you can claim from the following organisation: https://www.nbi-ngf.ch/en/ngf
Unfortunately, there is a CHF 1000 excess on claims to NGF (ie you pay the first CHF 1000 before they cover costs).
You did already the right thing by posting this on reddit.
Is the car less than 5 years? If it is they may cover it
I can take it off you if you dont wanna deal with the hassle of selling it…
If it’s a (relatively) new car you’ll likely have full kasko insurance anyway meaning you can claim damage once / year without being penalised other than for having to pay the Selbstbehalt (depending on policy).
just repair it at a body shop and pay out of pocket. this will be about 300-400.-
not worth going through insurance
Absolutely nothing.
If you have Vollkasko, you can ask them to pay but they‘ll increase your premium probably. Or you can pay for repair yourself.
Park Schaden in your insurance, usually you get 2 claims a year.
Shrug and move on. It hurts only at the first bump.
