I just found it so different to most services I've been to. Wasn't really interested in buying from the farm shop but was nice to walk around and the food part was great, and relaxing to eat in.

The whole atmosphere of the place is great

  1. No.

It’s fucking amazing. Shame to call it a service station when it’s more like a destination wedding venue

  2. I’m going to join the inevitable tsunami of comments which say Tebay

  3. It is rather nice, but have you seen the price of their scotch eggs in the deli? 🫣

  4. I used to love stopping at Gloucester services. Unfortunately, every visit is tainted by the memory of my partner finding an actual full poo on top of a toilet roll holder in the men’s restrooms 😔 Amazing strawberries, though!

  5. I’m not joking. I genuinely had the best sausage roll of my LIFE at Gloucester services.

  6. It’s a nice way to significantly lighten your wallet if it’s feeling too heavy

I quite like the refurbished westbound fleet services, but it’s ofc not as posh as Gloucester.

Also a fan of Cornwall services, tis a pleasant place for a piss

  7. I think it totally up its arse. Overpriced and catering for a limited number of middle class wankers en route to see Tristram and Jemima at their teepee ranch just outside Stroud…

  8. The breakfasts there are phenomenal. It’s like having breakfast in your own home, except that you’ve shopped at a nicer place and haven’t had to cook anything yourself – and I mean this in a good way.

  9. I stopped by once and was gobsmacked by how posh it was.

I literally did not see a single non-white person there, and the only people who weren’t distinctly middle class were the employees (who were just ordinary, not-posh white people.)

  10. Michaelwood, on the M5.

Far enough to warrant a toilet stop, but close enough to allow attacking the Bristol traffic at a reasonable hour, before the final, unstopping push, to Dorset.

  11. I hate it, and Tebay… I just want a service station, I want to be in and out with minimal fuss – everyone dithers about and gets in the way, the food takes forever because they never have enough staff on and the farm shop is ludicrously expensive even for a services so you can’t pick up a quick snack or a drink without wanting to die.

  12. During COVID my now wife and I lived in the area. As they had to keep the services open we used to have our dates here as there was nowhere else to meet for lunch. Random share lol.

  13. Looks nice, always disappointed by the food options though.

  14. I found this is like the standard in France. Why are service stations in the UK so dread?

  15. I stopped there (northbound) on the way back from a funeral, picked up some pastries for the family. I had mine and followed the nature walk they have, it was so serene and peaceful, motorway barely in ear shot, just countryside views (despite Gloucester’s proximity). Highly recommend the walks!

  16. I don’t know about any “nice” services, but there’s a dead strange one near Sheffield now that’s got this whole faux city square thing going on. Then there’s the new Skelton Lake one near Leeds which feels like an airport departure lounge.

Frankly I don’t think it’s right if a motorway service station doesn’t feel faintly anachronistic and liminal, like stepping back to 1992 or so.

  17. I stop at Rugby services a lot which is very nice. Big open layout, clean and bright
