The rich gastronomic tradition of Sifnos is preparing to cross the Aegean and reach Cyprus. From June 12 to 16, the Municipality of Sifnos is planning its participation in the Festival “Cyprus Cooks – Greece Flaunts: from grandmother to granddaughter”, a unique event dedicated to authentic traditional cuisine and the intergenerational transmission of culinary knowledge.

The participation of Sifnos is at the request of the Cultural Association of Sifnos and is part of the Municipality’s initiatives to promote local cultural identity.

This is a traditional gastronomic festival and gastronomy conference, in which cultural associations from Greece and Cyprus participate. This year’s event will host traditional dishes presented by four cultural associations from Greece, including Sifnos, as well as local organizations and communities from Cyprus.

As announced, visitors will have the opportunity to taste authentic dishes, derived from recipes passed down from generation to generation, from “grandmother to granddaughter,” as the title of the festival states.

Sifnian gastronomy will be presented on stage and in the festival venues, aiming to highlight the island’s gastronomic and cultural identity through traditional flavors, authentic products, and local recipes.

According to the Municipality of Sifnos, this participation is an important opportunity for extroversion, contributing, among other things, to the promotion of the island’s gastronomic tradition to an international audience, to the establishment of collaborations with cultural and tourist institutions in Cyprus, as well as to the strengthening of local identity through experiential experiences.

‘As people from the Cultural Association have pointed out from time to time, Sifnian cuisine is not just taste — it is memory, history, and tradition, inextricably linked to the everyday life of the place. In this direction, the festival gives visitors to Cyprus the opportunity to get to know emblematic dishes, such as the traditional rivithato, rivithokeftedes, Sifnos mastiha, almond cake, and many other flavors that carry Aegean aromas.

At the same time, this participation also strengthens the tourism prospects of Sifnos, as it strengthens the island’s position on the map of Mediterranean gastronomic tourism. The exchange of experiences with Cypriot producers and associations is expected to constitute a cultural bridge that will strengthen the ties between the two island regions.
