4. I can’t really think of why a UK national would be undocumented in the USA. You can visit visa free for up to 3 months. It’s really easy to do.

   So did they get there and then decide to just stay forever and throw away their passport? 

   They wouldn’t even be able to support themselves outside of cash in hand work.
