seems to me the Swedes know a thing or two about making cost effective machines of war. Archer is another example.
I get is a really great notice, but this kind of things should stay under OPsec for much longer and shouldn’t be spread so easily.
Pretty sweet knowing how well those connected systems work together. Russia might build bunkers for their jets, but they’re sitting there uselessly if they don’t dare using them thanks to Ukrainian air defense capabilities.
Yep, this is what we have all been waiting for.
This is not new. I’ve seen it before. It is impressive though, Sweden only had 2 aircraft like that and even then they decided to donated one to Ukraine. Huge help. Tack, Sverige!
Edit: u/LawfulnessPossible20 informed me the two of them were donated to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy has wisely predicted America’s treacherous ambitions and cleverly sourced new ways to fight the war.
This and the Japanese satellite system are giving the Ukrainians a clear advantage.
russia going down.
This seems like momentous news, like now Ukraine feels confident to assert air dominance at least to some extent. With the possible destruction of the Ruzzian A-50s recently perhaps the power balance in the air has shifted.
Proud of living in Sweden! Fuck putler and taco!
Ordy bordy bork bork bork!
About 950 more to take down
The other day when it was announced that Sweden would be loaning this aircraft there was speculation as to whether the F-16s it might be partnered with would have the ability to use “Link 16”, the data network that basically allows the AEW&C aircraft to send the location of detected targets to the fighters, who can then fire missiles at the targets without ever needing to use their own radar to mark the target.
What I’m reading here sounds like exactly that, anyone confirm?
didnt ukraine already said the su35 was downed with a SAM?
AWACS detection range has nothing to do with with russian jet seeing f16. f16 still has to get in range of their AMRAAMS and aircraft radars can see their target from much bigger ranges than missile range. Su35 was probably aware of the f16, AWACS only provides intel of enemy aircraft movement, nothing more. F16 still has to lock the target with their own radar in order to hit at such range.
Russia’s air force just got squeezed from another direction. In the air or on the ground, Russia’s planes are going down.
The Swedes are absolute top notch in everything they do, i met my wife there at the Stockholm surstromming festival….
Sweden, a pain in Russia’s ass since 1682.
Finally, something that makes me feel pride of my country
old news 10x over at this point
I don’t understand why EU/NATO (minus Trump) doesn’t just enforce a no fly zone over most of Ukraine. They could focus on drones and missiles while Ukraine focuses on offensive operations and air to air combat. It would be a fairly low risk operation and doesn’t seem like it would be getting directly involved in the war.
Слава Україні. Слава Швеції.
Another card up the sleeve.
I thought that was the major advantage of F16. That it had way better enemy jet detection than the russkies.
SAABotage
AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) radar has a significantly greater range than the radar on an F-16 fighter jet. AWACS can detect targets at distances exceeding 200 nautical miles (400 kilometers). The F-16, on the other hand, typically has a radar range of around 65 nautical miles (120 kilometers).
That was an important unlock on the tech tree.
That su 35 must have don the world finest flat spin soft landing in the world.
Did not look like a avarage shootdown wreck.
No idea what happen, but I would expect more damage if a telefon pole hit it (s300/400)
Good stuff. One less flying lada!
Europe is getting a ton of good testing of all their equipment, and can then use the data to fuck ruSSia even more. Great news!
