In the summer of 2023, the leadership of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) offered prisoners of war and voluntarily surrendered soldiers from the Russian Armed Forces a chance to fight in their ranks. One of the first to accept was Mikhail, known by his callsign “Pers.” He had been imprisoned on a trumped-up charge, later sent to the front as part of Storm Z, and surrendered at the first opportunity—recognizing the senselessness of the war.

But joining the RVC was a conscious choice for Misha. From that point on, he took part in key operations, front-line assaults, and gave numerous interviews. He made close friends and even got engaged—his fiancée said "yes." Thanks to his courage, skill, and natural charisma, the RVC’s initiative to include former POWs was seen as a success, inspiring others in the Russian military to switch sides and fight for justice.

Misha “Pers” was killed in action while leading his unit during an assault in the Kupyansk direction.

  1. This man knew the difference between right and wrong and had enough spine to stand up for right. He didn’t die in vain. He is a real hero of Russia, Ukraine, and the Civilized world. Let’s keep up the fight.

  4. Sounds like he died in a daring Blackhawk raid behind enemy lines. Goes to show that every successful operation still has its price. RIP.

  5. I wonder how many soldiers would defect if they were granted citizenship and protection. Obviously would need lots of vetting.

  6. And this is why I make a distinction between Russians on one side and Ruzzians on the other.
The Russians, that fight against Putin in a multitude of ways, these are people with whom one day Russia could become a normal neighbor again.
Ruzzians are the biggest enemy of Russia.
