The obvious downside to this is it slows down their response times
As in, they’re now putting more of what they have left in the East near their strategic ‘peer’ because they’re worried, and they really should be worried.
Longer response and deployment time soft Ukraine, more flying hours, harder maintenance, still just as vulnerable, and China must be sitting there just watching with mild amusement as it all keeps going wrong for Vladimir.
They can run but they can’t hide, cyka.
So they are now closer to US?
So I guess that’s one way to prevent Ukraine from using the same method again. Put the planes somewhere a truck can’t drive to. There’s no overland road in. Anadyr is so isolated that the only link to the outside world is the airport or the dock.
Time to figure out how to get one of those drone trailers onto a container barge…
This is getting greedy, but I kind of wish they had gone even bigger with Spiderweb. Double or triple the number of drones. Of course, that would risk the entire operation. But if they pulled it off, they might have all but wiped out Russia’s 2nd strike bomber fleet, which would be a dangerous development.
The other thing that would be potentially helpful would be to equip a couple of the drones with droppable 40 mm HEDP. If the warhead limit was same as an RPG warhead, they could carry 10 with a small allowance for the dropping mechanism. My logic is that if a fully fuelled bomber is struck on the wing, this 200 gram munition would do the same damage as a 2.5 kg PG-7VL. So let one of these loose to drop one or two per aircraft. At worst, the struck aircraft will be out of action while being repaired. At best full destruction.
Even better would be an AI algorithm that can do all this automatically … fast. A single drone doing a fast flyover, dropping perfectly, could leave up to 10 burning aircraft.
Ukraine already master sea based drone launches so are they really “safe” ?
“Two Tupolev Tu-160 planes have been moved 4,000 miles from the front lines to the remote Anadyr airbase, which can only be accessed by air and sea, satellite imagery showed.”
