As summer approaches, I look forward to the activities that make this season memorable in Pennsylvania. From family cookouts to lazy days by the pool, there’s something truly special about this time of year.
As we prepare to embrace the warmth of summer, we must recognize the indispensable role that natural gas plays in enhancing our quality of life.Natural gas powers many of the summer amenities we rely on. Whether it’s firing up the grill for a backyard barbecue or keeping our pools warm and inviting, natural gas is the reliable and affordable energy source that makes it all possible.
Beyond its role in summer pastimes, natural gas plays a crucial role in driving our state’s economy. The natural gas and oil industry supports about 423,000 jobs, including over 93,000 direct positions, and generates more than $40 billion in labor income annually.
Since its implementation in 2012, the natural gas impact fee has provided more than $2.7 billion for critical environmental, infrastructure, public safety, and other projects in all 67 counties.
So as we look ahead to the summer months and beyond, remember how natural gas and oil impact our daily lives. By continuing to invest in natural gas infrastructure, innovation and workforce development, we can ensure that our state remains a vibrant and thriving place to live, work and play.
