I remember being read this exact version when I was about 8 and being confused as to how boiling water could kill you . What followed was a 1/2 hour discussion with my mother on the medical effects of boiling water on various internal organs. I think I am still having those nightmares !
A Berkshire Hunt’s wet dream
Is this translated into German? Would be a heartwarming bedtime read for sure.
This probably sounds wild but books like this helped me through some serious PTSD.
My daughter was in hospital for 7 months after she was born and I watched her get resuscitated numerous times. I even had the talk with the consultants about the high chance of her dying and not coming home.
She survived 🙂 but I could not think or talk about death. I would have severe panic attacks if I let my mind wander down that path.
When my daughter got a bit older and I started reading her fairy tales etc, some are fucking brutal. Even Disney books like Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, when Gaston falls to his death off the roof. I used to avoid those pages where characters die, but eventually started to include them.
That is literally what made me able to talk about it again.
“And that’s why you have to clean your room and do as I say”
I didn’t think the Eli Roth version of Fantastic Mr Fox would ever see the light of day, fascinating
And I thought The Animals of Farthing Wood was dark!
I remember a ladybird book from my childhood that had something like a goat drugging a fox, cutting it open, filling it with rocks, stitching it up and then drowning it.

And they didn’t live happily ever after.
Amen.
