It’s been a rare occurrence for estranged royal brothers Prince Harry and Prince William to attend the same official engagement recently. However, in June 2022, the brothers put aside their differences to participate in Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
This event also marked the first public appearance of Harry and Meghan since they stepped down from their royal duties in 2020. During the ceremony, although both brothers seemed to have come together, they maintained a noticeable distance, barely interacting.
A lip reader has now revealed what he believes the brothers said during a brief exchange, including an instruction from William to Kate.
As we previously reported, lip-reading expert John Cassidy claimed that as they stepped out, Kate commented on the service, saying, “It went very well, very well” with William responding, “Yes, perfect.”
Afterwards, as William greeted the crowd, Cassidy says the prince turned to Kate and said: “Wait for that to move, then we can go.”
In addition, body language expert Judi James, who observed the royal couples at the same event, believes William gave Harry the “opposite of an acknowledgement” along with a “barrier gesture”,
James noted that William used a “barrier gesture” when walking past Harry’s pew with Kate on their way to their seats. Judi shared her insights, remarking: “Harry looked firmly resigned to the back row here and was not sitting behind his brother as he was for the last service of remembrance.”
She observed that “Harry’s expression did suggest some relief as he joked with Zara as he searched for his car on the way out and he threw a wide, open-mouthed grin in her direction from the pews, but otherwise he fell into a haunted eye expression with some rapid blinking to suggest inner anxiety, leaning in and down to Meghan when she spoke as though keen to get some support.”
Moreover, Judi noted: “There was the opposite to an acknowledgement from William as he walked past Harry’s row during the parade out of the service.”
Detailing William’s body language, she added: “Sucking in his lips and with his chin pulled up in a gesture of resolve he appeared to turn his head in the other direction for a moment, raising his order of service high in a barrier gesture.”
After uniting at the Jubilee in 2022 to honour Britain’s longest-serving monarch, William and Harry were brought together just months later by the passing of their beloved grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
In a show of unity, the siblings, along with Kate and Meghan, engaged in a joint walkabout in Windsor to view floral homages.
However, despite this short-lived period of apparent reconciliation, the relationship between the brothers seems to have worsened after Prince Harry and Meghan released a Netflix series airing grievances about the Royal Family, coupled with Harry’s scathing memoir targeting his relatives.
