  1. On these threads, someone will inevitably come out with the old chestnut “it’s just paperwork”

Having been through several food hygiene inspections myself, I can assure you it is not “just paperwork”. That’s a myth propagated by food business owners with shit hygiene ratings.

Helpfully, they break the score down into three categories

Hygienic food handling: which is things like whether the fridges are at the correct temperature, food in date and not letting raw meat drip onto salad leaves.

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: How clean it is, is the place falling apart, do you (for instance) have holes in the wall that let rats in or a cracked worktop that’s harbouring bacteria because it can’t be cleaned properly.

Management of food safety: The ONLY section where paperwork is relevant.

The vast majority of the businesses with a zero have failed, badly, in all three areas. The excuses most of them give in the responses just aren’t plausible to anyone with an ounce of experience.

  2. Manufacturer/ Packers on there should just be closed down until they are up to standard. Where on a packet of Doritos is the hygiene rating?

  3. My opinion if they have not been closed down , or even given a temporary closure order then they have met enough of a standard to reamin open.

My favourite Indian has a score of 1.
    Amazing food never gotten sick.

  4. To be fair I’ve never seen someone eating in the fox and hounds Risca
