Yeh, certain locations in the Cotswolds are suffering from pretty severe over-tourism. It’s definitely long past the point where you can reasonably enjoy bourton-on-the-water because it’s essentially a horrible tourist trap now. It’s not what I remember from 30 years ago.
Still, for every tourist hell hole, there’s a thousand lesser known places where you can visit in peace. Also I don’t see how you can reasonably complain about tourists ruining a place when you’re one of them. All you can do is plan better next time.
‘Cotswolds’ features on at least 90% of yanks’ itineraries posted on Reddit ; only Dishoom seems to have a similar hit rate.
bunch of stuck up arseholes. For some of those people they can’t afford to go out and spend alot of money so a little picnic is good.
This happens because of how “village life” is shown on TV. Making it look perfect. Of course, people will want to go there.
I have wanted to go live in an English perfect village since I was 14 and discovered Midsomer Murders. (less murdery one though).
Tik Tok has been a curse on lots of nice tourist spots.
Tourist complains there are too many tourists
Tourists annoyed at others tourists for touristing in the same place as them…
Group of 8 getting annoyed at large family groups, riiight.
WTF, did they think it was going to be deserted? They travelled 90mins did they just think they would have the place to themselves?
Tourists upset that tourists ruined their trip to a popular tourist location.
Like going for a quiet pint in benidorm and being shocked at the drunk rowdyness
8 strong group of tourists complaining about groups of tourists spoiling the view.
Wow
That’s a whole new level of nimby thinking.
I know it’s The Star but troop != troupe
What’s the problem with eating from a saucepan? I’m not from the UK so I’m genuinely curious, it seems like a weird thing to be upset about
Government should start a building blitz to build quaint English villages to ease the burden here.
The irony of not realising he was part of the tourist problem
Oh come on. Can’t I eat out a saucepan in peace now.
I bet you any money, the guy who this is about has had an affair with his parish councillor
Tourist annoyed that other tourists don’t turn up with wicker hamper basket and cucumbers Sandwiches in hand lol
I happen to work in this very village.
And yes the locals are pissed off and people are selling their houses cause they didn’t really realise how wild it gets in the summer especially over the last couple of years.
Locals don’t go out in the day and when they go to the shop for dinner, everything is gone from the shelves. All the local pubs and shops are expensive to take advantage of the tourist… So the locals get out priced. No parking and can’t do anything without someone being in the way.
I’ll put my hand up for complaining, however when you look at high Streets in cities and shops on the drop it closing due to lack of footfall… It’s kinda a blessing to have all these people show up and fuel the local economy. Even if they do eat from saucepans
… Man in traffic jam complaining about traffic jam.
Bourton on the water is just filled with assholes, both the residents and the tourists. I’ve never been to a place where everyone was so awful
