Fourteen routes will be opened to Luxembourg cyclists for five weeks from next month, to enable people to get on their bike and enjoy the sights and scenes of the Grand Duchy as part of the annual Vëlosummer (bicycle summer).
Cyclists can once again enjoy the picturesque country roads undisturbed for five weeks from 19 July until 24 August, with the 14 routes closed to traffic for either the entire duration or at weekends.
This year, the routes lead cyclists through the hills of the Ösling, the rocky gorges of the Mullerthal, the shores of the Upper Sûre reservoir, the castles in the Gutland and the varied landscape of the Minett.

The aim of the Vëlosummer, which saw 31,000 cyclists participate last year, is also to encourage Luxembourg residents to use this environmentally friendly means of transport for everyday journeys, said Transport Minister Yuriko Backes.

An online map planner is also available to make it easier to plan your next cycling excursion, while anyone who completes all 14 routes can participate in a quiz to win a symbolic yellow jersey.
All routes are on tarmac and therefore suitable for all types of cyclists. Along many of the routes, leisure cyclists can also rent a bike at one of the many hire stations. The Vëlosummer routes are all signposted and can also be used by residents’ vehicles, buses and emergency services during the designated period.
