  1. I don’t know anyone who made it past the first level of ecco to be honest

Edit: echo to ecco, predictive text was adamant that I put echo, even though the picture clearly stated ecco

  2. My trauma was the water level of Captain Planet on the megadrive…

  3. Me as a kid: “Oh, this game looks good. I’m a dolphin, cool.”

    *-an hour later-*

“WHERE THE FUCK DID A UFO COME INTO THIS?”

  4. Everything is fine if you just don’t jump too high out of the water… 🥺

  5. For anyone who wants to relive it, it’s available on the Nintendo Switch in the Sega Mega Drive Classics pack if you have the Switch Online + Expansion pack subscription.

  6. Gremlins scared the fuck out of me as a kid…It wasn’t until the second film where they were having a bit more of a laugh that they didn’t freak me out so much…

  7. Think I got through the first 2-3 levels then became interested in another game. I do remember being extremely confused by it though. To be fair, it wasn’t a bad game and maybe even ahead of it’s time a little

  8. Ohbhey! Welcome to town! I live in the area, I love the little retro gaming stall (:

  9. All we did was swim the dolphin fast into the rocks. Impossibly hard game when your a 7yr old with no manual and no Internet for tips

  10. As soon as…. *it* happens..

I got as far as meeting another big fish.

Too traumatic as a kid. That hollow emptiness really is something. I watched the rest of the game later in life, and I’m super glad I never carried on playing.

The whole game is like if Ridley Scott made Deep Blue Sea instead of Alien.

  11. I got my big brother to get me through the earlier levels that freaked me out, then I was happily playing along when I met The Big Blue. I don’t care that he was ‘friendly’ – just seeing this gargantuan SPRITE take over the screen out of the dark blue water had me hurling the controller

  12. I really struggled with getting through this game, I definitely found it difficult when I played it as a child.

Obviously never got even remotely close to completing it.

  13. Played the sequel to this on my Dreamcast (the only console I’ve ever owned lol). Gorgeous game, but basically impossible. Tom Baker does a dreadful hammy narration.

  14. Oh my god I was thinking about this game the other day but couldn’t remember the name of it.

    Thanks so much

  15. Games without instructions was the norm, Turok The Dinosaur Hunter was just as bad.

  16. Ecco! That fucking game was so utterly ridiculously hard. I remember throwing the case at the wall in frustration.

  17. The hardest game I’ve ever played! They released a version on 3ds later on where you had the option of infinite oxygen and immunity against jellyfish. And because of the puzzle elements of the game being hard to respawn if you messed it up, i still never made it past the dolphin rescue stage. Curse that starfish ring!

  18. My first trauma was Eye of the Beholder 2. (1991) I would have been 4 or 5. The antagonists face turns to an evil grin with scary music to a kid that age. Immediately turned the sound off and cried lol

  19. I’ll never forget using a cheat code to skip to the final boss and having an absolute screaming fit when I saw the boss. I also had an invincibility cheat on so I got stuck in a cycle of Ecco screaming in pain while being eaten but HE COULDN’T DIE. Fuck that game.

  20. This and Altered Beast are the only 2 games that have ever defeated me and I hate their very existence.

  21. I had this game for years and tried to play it countless times… Still no idea how to play it, or what the goal was.

  22. Gorgeous music in that game. The MegaCD one, especially

  23. I completed this game. I was about 12 when this came out. There was running leading board completion in Mean Machines magazine for those that completed it. 🤣

  24. PS1, Chris Kamara’s Street Soccer. SEGA,. Lemmings. N64, Ms Pac-man. Atari 2600, ET. Colecovision, Zaxxon. Vectrex, Cosmic Chasm. Grandstand TVG 3000, football squash tennis practice.
