Thailand and Norway reaffirmed their long-standing diplomatic relationship during the 13th Bilateral Consultations, co-chaired on Friday 13 June 2025 by H.E. Russ Jalichandra, Thailand’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, Norway’s State Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting, held at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo, reviewed the progress of bilateral relations as the two countries celebrate the 120th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas including innovation, healthcare, maritime medicine, and the green transition. The parties also explored collaboration within the ASEAN framework.

Regional and international issues such as the situations in Ukraine, Myanmar, and the Middle East were also addressed.

During the visit, Vice Minister Jalichandra met separately with H.E. Ragnhild Sjoner Syrstad, Norway’s State Secretary to the Minister of Trade and Industry. Their talks centred on expanding trade and investment, as well as on the ratification and implementation process of the Thailand–EFTA Free Trade Agreement.

Earlier in the week, the Vice Minister also attended the Oslo Forum 2025 from 11 to 12 June. The forum is a global platform for dialogue on conflict mediation and peacebuilding. He contributed to a session titled “Derisking Disorder: Asia’s Playbook for Conflict Prevention and Management,” where ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn served as the main speaker.
