  3. Greenland is not in the EU despite being part of an EU member state. However, the EU commission has stated that the EU defence clause still applies to Greenland.

  4. TF can the EU do when we can’t even fully replace US military aid and intelligence to Ukraine.

  5. Europe is not gonna go to war with America for Greenland . It’s just not gonna happen. There’s no will for it in Europe.

    I expect Europe will take action when Trump is like
    let’s do a reenactment of D- Day (jk jk. Unless…..)

  6. Trump has been ridiculous on Greenland, but I feel like the EU is playing their hand here terribly.

    1. The US is not going to forcefully annex Greenland.
    2. If the US was going to annex Greenland, the EU would not be able/willing to actually stop them.
    3. EU countries currently need to convince the US to keep funding Ukraine, stay committed to European security, and continue defending vital shipping lanes for the EU.

    All while the EU moves away from US positions on other topics.

    To be clear I’m not trying to shield Trump from (legitimate) criticism, but this makes no sense from a national interest POV for France or the EU. It does make sense in terms of personal political interest for Macron and others, which is likely the calculus at play here.

  7. Good steps taken. Happy too see European unity and solidarity against the despotically inclined regimes in the world currently.

  8. The EU better back that up with solid defense spending, not come back and beg for help when Russia or China trying to take control.

  10. Why don’t they just come out and say what they really mean? “Trump, we won’t let you buy Greenland.” This tip toe act just looks so cowardly. I doubt Trump is even seriously considering taking Greenland. He’s made no official plans to do so and he hasn’t mentioned it in over a month

    There’s a reason little France has the world’s largest exclusive economic zone of any nation on earth, and it’s not because it’s willing to part with colonial holdings.

    The French are the most hypocritical actors on the world stage today. I almost hope the US invades Greenland just to see Macron’s rat faced response at this point.
