US says was aware Israel would strike Iran but not involved in attack • FRANCE 24 English

us ally Israel struck dozens of Iranian targets in this dramatic attack that experts say threatens to eventually spiral into an allout regional war us Secretary of State Marco Rubio insists that the US was not involved in Israel’s bombardment of Iran’s nuclear sites while US President Donald Trump told Fox News earlier that he was aware Israel was going to conduct strikes on Iran before they happened and stressed that tan cannot have a nuclear bomb we spoke earlier to France 24’s Washington correspondent Fraser Jackson for more us has been preparing for the last 24 or so hours for this kind of retaliatory strike from the Iranians clearly expecting this kind of strike from the Israelis in the first case uh but uh they’ve been changing their posture when it comes to their diplomatic efforts in the region of course we saw Donald Trump effectively evacuate the embassy in Baghdad and then he allowed a voluntary uh evacuation of military uh military spouses uh from various other military bases in the region but uh we’ve not really heard directly from Donald Trump on these strikes we have heard from him through Fox News we’re told that he spoke to Brett Bear just a short time ago and confirmed that he was made aware of these strikes uh before they took place he said that there were no surprises but once again reiterated that the US was not involved militarily in these strikes now in this conversation with Brett Bayer he said once again that Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and we’re hoping to get back to the negotiating table we’ll see there are several people in leadership that will not be coming back that there clearly a reference to some of those Iranian leaders who perished in that strike by Israel this evening but also in this interview that he gave to Brett Bear he chiefly said uh that he reached out to at least one key Middle Eastern ally to acknowledge that this strike was going to happen but that once again the US was not involved in the strike and he reiterated to this Middle East ally that the goal was still to get Iran back to the negotiating table remember these talks are still ongoing in Muscat this is going to be a significant uh a significant end to these talks uh which was meant to happen in the next couple of weeks and we are also told that Steve Wickoff was going to be meeting with the Iranian foreign minister on Sunday in Muscat it’s unclear whether that will still happen i’ve reached out to a source at the State Department and they are will be getting back to me as soon as they know more but at the moment Donald Trump will be talking this over with his national security team at 11:00 on Friday that was meant to be a cabinet meeting it’s now turned to an NSC meeting uh but Fox News is reporting that the president is still looking uh for that uh negotiation to continue they also say that the president is looking to see if there will be a retaliation and says that SenCom that is the central command which uh looks over all of that region for the US uh the US military they say SECOM is on high alert and the US is willing to defend itself and Israel if re if Iran does retaliate

US President Donald Trump told Fox News he was aware Israel was going to conduct strikes on Iran before it happened, and stressed that Tehran “cannot have a nuclear bomb,” according to the US broadcaster. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier Thursday that the United States was “not involved in strikes against Iran”.

  18. Not involved but there are already reports that at least several of their recon planes were helping with the coordination of the attacks. I am sure the U.S helped with satellites as well.

  20. Trump pulled the Iran deal last time, Iran was complying and has done absolutely nothing wrong. Iran has shown incredible restraint.
