  1. The new “upload your ID to scammers so they can take loan” laws

  2. Excuse me sir, are you sure you’re old enough to masturbate.

  3. So I take it no one actually read the article here then?

Actually a decent informative article for once from the daily star.

TLDR you’ll have to put your email address into the site, it then checks your email to see where it’s been used elsewhere, in order to verify your age. To apply for a credit card for example.

No this is not new, and yes scammers or hackers probably could use this information against you. But only as easily as they could if you’d signed up to a betting site or bought something online.

  4. Unpopular opinion but I think this ID requirement is reasonable. If you want to purchase alcohol, cigarettes, knives, medicine, or indeed physical porn mags, you have to provide ID to prove you are an adult. Why should online porn be any different?

I started watching porn when I was 10. It was easy to access just from a web browser or my phone. I don’t know if it harmed me but I certainly don’t think it was healthy. It does surprise me how many people online are against porn being restricted to adults-only.

My understanding is that the ID verification system is a secure government system, and not accessible by the porn websites, so it’s not like you are giving your ID to scammers.

  5. “platforms to implement highly effective age assurance technology”
put money on a VPN skirting this in seconds

“Under the Act, the regulator has vowed to crack down on any website hosting or posting adult content that has not implemented the correct safeguards by the deadline next month”
Whilst they can potentially ban the website from the UK, the porn sites are not legally obliged if they are hosted outside of the UK as its not UK law they will follow, however they may implement these through choice if there is enough revenue generation

  6. I think this is actually a good idea.

It obviously doesn’t go down well in online communities because we are all online but we genuinely do have to address the issue.

This isn’t seeing boobs in a magazine or an any of the lighter things people often use to downplay what online pornography actually is.

  7. I use a VPN as standard anyway, all day every day. They going to ban that? How about Reddit? Is that going to be blocked? Doubt it.

  8. Sooo, how many porn sites are actually based in the UK? I know there’s some content created here, but until now I didn’t really care where on the internet it was hosted.

And next week, how many will STILL be hosted in the UK?

  9. In other news, in powers being snuck through parliament, civil servants about to be given access to everyone’s bank accounts to check for “fraud”. Including the power to remove money. There is no requirement for them to notify if they access our accounts.
But I’m sure it’s safe to give the government control and monitoring over everyone’s porn viewing.
