Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan to visit Turkey at Erdogan’s invitation

AKIPRESS.COM – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will visit Turkey at the invitation of Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Speaker of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan said.
“I confirm that the visit will take place. All regional issues will be discussed. I think this is a historic visit because it will be the first time an Armenian Prime Minister makes a visit at such a level,” he told journalists (quoted by RIA Novosti).
Earlier, Armenian portal 24News, citing a high-ranking source, reported that Pashinyan’s visit is scheduled for June 20.
This will mark an important stage in the history of Armenian-Turkish relations, which were severed in 1993. At that time, Turkey broke diplomatic and trade ties with Armenia in support of Azerbaijan due to the war in the former Nagorno-Karabakh. Since then, the parties have made several attempts at normalization, but without establishing a full-fledged dialogue.
In 2023, Nikol Pashinyan already visited Turkey on a working trip, becoming the first Armenian leader to visit the country in 15 years. The upcoming visit could be a step towards a new phase in normalizing relations between the two states.
