Activists from the Heart of Moldova Party protested in front of the Government, declaring their opposition to the arming of the Republic of Moldova, which, according to them, is promoted by the ruling party. They asked the cabinet of ministers to stop the militarization, stating that these actions “push the country towards the Ukrainian scenario”. The protesters demanded that the funds allocated for the military sector be redirected to social needs – education, medicine, etc., reports IPN.

“Instead of developing the economy, we are being armed. We are given armored carriers, combat drones, anti-tank weapons, air defense systems. The European Union has armed Moldova with almost 200 million euros, we have already become the second largest recipient of military aid from the EU after Ukraine,” said the leader of the Heart of Moldova in Fălești, Vitalie Blanari, quoted in a press release from the party.

The representative of the party in Chisinau, Alexandru Sabadaș, emphasized that the ruling party is spending hundreds of millions on barracks, while closing schools. “With the 709 million lei planned for military infrastructure objectives, we could save dozens of schools across the country,” he said.

“The main threat to Moldova is not foreign tanks, but the lack of doctors and closed schools in villages,” declared the party leader in Cahul, Silvia Granici. According to her, calculations show that the budget saved from military expenses would be sufficient for additional payments of 24 thousand lei for all teachers and medical workers.

The party representative, Victor Topal, drew attention to the intensification of interaction between Moldovan soldiers and NATO. “NATO generals are already deciding for us who is an enemy to Moldova and who is not. They are increasing the army by 4 thousand people. Why is this being done? If someone threatens Moldova – then they are in the Government building, the Presidency and the Parliament,” Victor Topal declared.

The activists have conveyed to the Government the text of Article 11 of the Constitution regarding neutrality, as well as the party’s initiative to abandon the increase of the defense budget and to return a billion lei for the needs of education, medicine, but also for the support of children and the elderly.
