FARGO — The general surgery department at Essentia Health in Fargo invites the public to a free event exploring the options for resolving a hernia.

The seminar is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, at the Avalon Events Center, 2525 Ninth Ave. S., in the Prairie Rose Room, according to a release from Essentia.

Hernias can cause symptoms such as bulging, aching and heaviness in the belly or groin and may require emergency surgery if left untreated, the release said.

Seminar attendees can learn about the different types of hernias and possible repair options. They can also see a demonstration of a surgical robot and learn about the benefits of robotic surgery.

These general surgeons will be available for questions: Dr. Dustin Nowotny, Dr. Lucas Holkup and Dr. Zachary Ernst.

Light refreshments will be served. Registration in advance is preferred but not required.

Attendees may

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
