Put a salary cap in place for all jobs

  1. The cap should be tied to the pay of the lowest paid employee

  2. It seems like at some point we got married to £25k a year and decided that was that. That’s British wages.

  3. I have a genuine question. Our wages are (largely) terrible, which impacts our tax liability and then the amounts we can contribute to a pension. If you’re on 25k a year. Your pension is going to be basically nothing. Theres the state pension, which may not last. So … what’s the plan? Have a destitute generation aging out?

  4. £25k would be an absolutely fine wage for me, after tax of course.

  5. Put a salary cap for all CEOs. Sucking a lot of money from the employees of the companies.

It is a political position. They become CEOs by licking shoes, like the photo. Just hire a a competent person for 1/10th of the salary. They will soon be replaced by AI, anyway. The bootlickers will be first to go.

  6. Excess deaths are high, perhaps not many people will need pensions

  7. It’s sad to see that since over 10 years not much has changed regarding salaries. I checked the entry salary at place where I started my career it was back then at £28 k, now it’s 32 k. Office is in London, so imagine finding a place to live other than some mouldy room. Now, eating three meals per day sounds like impossible extravagance with such salary.

  8. I often see the word ‘manager’ and then 25k next to it…

    L. M. F. A. O.

When you’re ready to actually pay for a managerial position to be filled, then maybe I’ll consider it.
Otherwise; good luck with your gen Z idiot that’ll take the prize.

  9. Minimum wage is £12.21 per hour.

    For a 40 hour week that’s £25,396 a year

    £25k is literally minimum wage

  10. At some point, I suspect we’re going to lose the NHS, or at least what people can get through the NHS. For instance, we might see maternity units stop offering things like birthing pools or voluntary C-sections for free. It’ll be presented to the public by saying that necessary services are still there, but if you want something extra, then you need to pay. The result will be that life expectancy goes down as people aren’t willing or able to pay for ‘extras’ that are more necessary than one might think, so the govt has to pay out less on both pensions and health services.

  11. If CEOs are being overpaid that the company’s problem. If salaries were capped for them there’s always dividends, stock options, and expenses they could use to hold onto them.

  12. Drives me up the wall that employers pay minimum wage. It’s the minimum, not a fucking standard.

Oh well. Minimum wage, minimum effort.

  13. A salary cap won’t help. Let’s say we cap salaries at 100k, but I previously to the cap earned 200k. Now all that will happen is that I get 100k salary and 100k in shares that I just sell to make up the difference.

  14. Point is we get stealth taxed with everything. Food, NI, Income tax threshold freezes etc. In the last 10 years, I got my first job out of uni and on 17.5k a year (I live quite remote) I was able to afford my first house with my wife earning similarly. 10 years on, I highly doubt it’s even possible to get near that.

  15. The other side of it being minimum wage for 40h is that most of the people who are in charge remember when £25k was a very good wage in the 60s-80s. Their mental numbers never adjust for inflation over time.

  16. It is so baffling rest of the developed world most are above 50k income on average. UK workers are happy taking home 27k a year . I don’t know how anyone can live off that. Instead of crying about immigrants and bs we should be raging against the system for this.

  17. Come out to the south coast where 25k is one of the higher wages about…and in Brighton & Hove we have London like house prices 😒

  18. Chances are the bombs will take us out before most have to worry. Have an awesome weekend …

  19. The Rakes had a song in 2004 called 22 Grand Job. 22 grand at the time was a decent wage. Enough to live on and still enjoy yourself.

22,000 in 2004 is worth 39,787 in 2025. Excuse me while I weep in the corner.

  20. Get a trade……….. It’s not rocket science.
