  1. Having all the windows open for the last few days, and the influx of flys brough this historical solution to mind! Does anyone still see these? I don’t think I’ve seen one since the 90s!

  2. The magnetic net things are a superior solution I think

  3. Oh yeah because it’s so nice hearing them flap around in the wind..

  4. Bring back the chain link ones on the doors of bookies with a picture of a horse on them!

  5. Nah, they were crap, we have an aluminium chain one which is far better.

  6. No they’re horrible! My aunt has a decent magnetic screen that is far nicer to look at

  7. One of my funniest childhood memories is of my mum walking through the one our back door just as she closed the garden shears

and then sewing the cut strips back together.

  8. This unlocked a memory. I remember seeing these in a lot of Asian houses.

  9. Childhood memories of my grandparents house walking into their garden through these! Used to love them as a kid, great times.

  10. Nothing like feeling like you’re walking into a dirty video shop when you’re going inside to get a drink.

  11. This brought back a memory of my grandad always using these. I haven’t seem them for decades, or used by anyone who wasn’t my grandads age. They didn’t seem to do much other than making walk in and out more annoying.

  12. My great grandparents had these exact ones. I haven’t thought about that in years. Maybe it’s why I’m a fan of door beads and such!

  13. That reminds me of the mini ones (tassels?) you used to get on kids bikes, usually girls bikes.

Along with flares with wide multi button waist bands, it was peak 70’s.

    [e]Spelling.

  14. Vivid memories of running in and out of nans house and somehow nearly being garrotted by two that had knitted together, every time.

  15. Flashback of being topless in summer and these sticking to my skin like fly paper.

  16. I liked the wooden beaded ones the most, the sound they make falls into the audible category of wind chimes and the lot

  17. I can still hear the cracking noise they made when the wind blew.

  18. Core memory unlocked.

My great gran had these and she used get annoyed when I’d twirl around around in them.

  19. Bonus points for entering the room through one of these by putting your hands together and “diving” through whilst making a splash sound.

  20. Seem to remember always trying to strangle myself with these things

  21. I got bamboo ones, bit noisey but keeps the flies out

  22. BBC filmed in our house a fair few years ago and wanted it to look a bit drug den-ish. They put one of these up on the back door.

  23. My grandparents on my dads side of the family still have these on their door leading in to the side passageway, and on their back door to the garden they also have the multicoloured chain type ones as well.

  24. My partners mum had something like over the kitchen door.

Untill the dog got stuck in it, freaked out, th3n pulled it off the wall.

  25. We had these on our caravan! I loved rolling them up on by on as tight as possible 🙂

(Dutch person here, I just love to lurk on this sub).
