Yulchon is reinforcing its litigation practice in South Korea with the recruitment of Nam Kwan Cho as a partner, previously a deputy prosecutor general of the country’s Supreme Prosecutors’ Office from 2020 to 2021.

“Cho possesses a deep understanding and practical experience across all aspects of prosecution, including investigation, policy and inspection,” Yong Pyo Yeom, a managing partner at Yulchon, told Asia Business Law Journal.

“This recruitment further strengthens the expertise and response capabilities of our litigation group in light of the growing demand for handling complex criminal issues and investigations involving high-ranking officials and corporations.”

Admitted to the Korean bar in 1995, Cho served as a prosecutor for 27 years and had worked on secondment to the Presidential Office and the National Intelligence Service. Notably, he was the acting prosecutor general for two months from March to May 2021. After leaving his role in prosecution in 2022, he went into private practice, setting up Cho Nam Kwan Law Office, which has now closed.

At Yulchon, Cho is set to handle investigation responses for large corporations and public institutions, as well as providing advice on criminal matters related to high-ranking officials, based on his experience in prosecution.
