  1. Submission Statement: South Korea’s spy chief in line, Lee Jong-seok, suggested that the U.S. would retaliate with nuclear force if North Korea attacked with atomic weapons, even at risk to its own safety. Pyongyang hours before released a barrage of rockets into the Yellow Sea, marking a major provocation towards both Seoul and Tokyo.

  2. Well, that’s the fun part about the current American administration – you don’t know if Trump would do as stated, if he would just ignore it, or if he would join North Korea in a war against the south…

It seems as up is down and down is up, nothing is certain in the current geopolitical climate.

  3. >he believes the United States would launch a nuclear counterstrike if North Korea attacked the South with atomic weapons.

I mean is this really even news? If North Korea launched a nuke at South Korea then the North Korean regime would need to be obliterated at all cost and as quick as possible. The bigger question is what would the US do if the North attacked the South with conventional weapons.

  4. Like most international messaging of this kind, it’s mostly for show (domestically and internationally). I seriously doubt any nuclear power would use nukes on another country that is a neighbor to another nuclear power unless they were willing to risk nuclear war. Without even considering all the other destabilizing effects, the nuclear fallout alone could easily be harmful enough to be seen as an indirect attack and could easily escalate things even if you’re not targeting a country that is a major nuclear power directly. This is of course assuming at least somewhat rational actors, though.

  5. It is crazy that after everything we have seen South Korea still considers such promises to have any value.

  6. That’s what mutual destruction usually means mr spy 👍

  7. Truth be told, I wouldn’t be so sure if the current admin would. But even for China such an action would turn NK into a liability and likely into regime change. The Kim Dynasty is more about sustaining their own power than ideological commitments, so I don’t think they are suicidal enough to do it anyways.

  8. Think if any ~10m pop city gets nuked the world would kick off regardless of which city where

As reference point Hiroshima was 0.4m

  9. “If”

Just my opinion but I think the more time goes by there’s less and less incentive for the Kim’s to try anything. Because why would you take that chance of your own destruction when you have an unchallenged stranglehold on NK you’d be throwing away for no reason

For all that we make fun of him I don’t think Kim Jong un is ACTUALLY stupid
