European leaders and high-ranking officials have expressed their support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova, while the authorities in Chisinau have reiterated their commitment to advancing on the path of European integration. Statements to this effect were made at the conference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Messina Conference, reports IPN.
“Moldova is ready to take this step. We have the political will, the support of the citizens, and a firm commitment to deliver results,” said Mihai Popșoi, referring to Moldova’s determination to advance in the European integration process. The Moldovan official emphasized that the spirit of the Messina vision remains relevant: “Messina 1955 was a starting point of the European construction. Looking back, we understand better how important it is to carry this project forward, with determination and vision.”
According to a press release from the MAE, European leaders and high officials, such as the European Commissioner, Marta Koss, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Polish Minister, Radosław Sikorski, and the French Minister Delegate for European Affairs, Benjamin Haddad, have advocated in their interventions for accelerating the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. They emphasized that the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU is a security imperative and a part of the process of reunifying the European continent, and that the Republic of Moldova deserves a place in the European family.
During the conference, a Joint Declaration of the EU member states was adopted, in which they reaffirm their commitment to European integration and the reunification of the entire continent.
