Russia is a failed state propped up by China. Russia is losing influence that took decades to build in the Middle East, Europe, and former Soviet blocks. It’s lost any hope of being a global competitor. It produces nothing but legacy energy, subject to constant market volatility, based on the petrodollar, and only oligarchs benefit from these resources. Putin has pillaged his people, and they let it happen. What does it say that Putin’s children don’t live in Russia? Russia’s people are morally bankrupt. They’ve done this to themselves. Other countries should learn lessons on what not to do.

Russia gambled on a quick war in Ukraine and lost. All Ukraine and the West have to do is hold firm and wait for Russia to implode.

Russia’s biggest blunder in this war has been revealing how outdated and ineffective their arsenal is, and how incompetent their military is. They’ve enjoyed “superpower” status based entirely on possession of nuclear weapons, while allowing most other aspects of their military to languish.
Their aircraft are largely refurbished soviet designs. Their armored vehicles are largely refurbished soviet designs. Most of their navy are refurbished soviet designs. Most of the aircraft they are losing in Ukraine are no longer in production, so once they are out of spare parts, that’s it. No more air force.
They vastly overplayed their hand in Ukraine, and if it weren’t for the west’s constant fears of escalation, I think they would have already been sent home, tail firmly between legs.
Iran has Russian air defense aka. Soviet garbage, Israel has full western kit, what did they honestly think would happen?

To me the difference is easy to understand when you understand the competing military doctrine.
The doctrinal foundation of Israel is that if one of their civilian soldiers dies it’s as if all mankind dies. Each soldier is someone’s child. Everything is done to protect the life of the soldier so they must use intelligence to leverage the little resource they have.
The philosophy of Russia is that life is meaningless and human bodies are meat to soak up cannon balls. And they have nearly infinite amount of human meat.
It starts at the top. Russia is incredibly corrupt. Everyone with power wants to get their piece of the pie before it’s gone. Putin set the example, those downstream followed his example. State assets were sold so certain individuals could profit. Every corner possible was cut to increase the amount of skim.
The extremely wealthy at the top did well. They have it all. Everyone else, not so much.
Based on current policy, the USA could be going down the same path. When public assets get sold who benefits? Who gets paid? Who gains influence?

The main difference is that israel at least tries to hit strategic military targets while russia just targets civilians.
