I fucking hate Western Europeans sometimes. It’s always like: eh Russia/Mongols/Turks are far away. Why bother? Those pesky Eastern Europeans will be good for meat shield as always. We will never actually recognise their efforts, defending Europe/Christianity(in the past).

The increments must be in a logical and progressive way in each country, increasing 3.7% is not realistic and we are not goint to do it. 🙂

After talking with a few army members here in Spain. I must say that we shouldn’t spend in defence.
We absolutely need to spend in defence. The buildings are decrepit, the living conditions in the HQs are bad, the salaries are unappealing, and the army is generally unmotivated.
I usually reject to spend money stupidly, but this has been neglected for too much time. (No, Spanish sight wing also did nothing to improve that, rather the opposite).
I know we’re not in Nato, but the Irish military would *kill* for a military budget of 1.5% of gdp.
That is, they *would* kill for it if they had any ammo.

They will just protest against the Russians coming to Spain and squirt them with water guns.

To be honest Portugal is worse, defence budget of 1,58% and a third of that is for GNR, so policing and not really military…

All of our neighboring countries are allies, except Morocco, and it’s highly unlikely they would ever attack a NATO member. Besides, even with relatively low military spending, we still maintain a capable army and navy

To be fair, for our low GDP spending we are probably the most capable non nuclear nation in Europe. Yes it could be higher, but 5% is outrageous. That just seems like defence lobbying by the USA to get us to buy american again. Especially because we don’t have a non american alternative to our harriers.
