All of the Brooches Queen Camilla Wore to the Ascot Racecourse This Week

The Queen wore the Cullinan V diamond heart-shaped brooch. According to the Royal Collection Trust, it was created by “originally worn by Queen Mary as part of the suite of jewellery made for the Delhi Durbar in 1911.” Queen Camilla previously wore it on her coronation crown.

Camilla wore Queen Elizabeth’s Emerald and Diamond Drop Brooch for the first time. The brooch has been in the family for more than 200 years, going back to Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck. After her death, she left them to her son, Prince Francis. But, according to the Court Jeweller, he “infamously bequeathed the jewels to his married mistress, the Countess of Kilmorey, when he died in 1910. Horrified by her brother’s indiscretion, Queen Mary reached out to Lady Kilmorey and offered to buy back the family jewels. The two settled on a price of £10,000, and the emeralds have been back in royal hands ever since.”

The Queen wore the Jardine Star Brooch, which she also wore at Ascot in 2024. It was left to Queen Elizabeth Il in 1981 by a mysterious Lady Jardine, but no one seems to know quite who Lady Jardine is.

Queen Camilla matched the all-white ensemble with a slight pop of color in the form of what has been lovingly been referred to as the “Raspberry Pip Brooch.”

According to the Crown Chronicles, the name “may have been inspired by its shape, which some observers liken to the delicate structure of a raspberry seed.” The brooch’s origins can be traced back to 1881 when it was presented as a wedding gift to Cecilia Nina Bowes-Lyon, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Eventually it made its way into the Royal Collection through the Queen Mother, who passed it onto Queen Elizabeth. Camilla first wore it at a public event on Christmas Day 2023.
