Greenville Utilities Commission expects that its two new liquified natural gas cryogenic tanks will be offloaded from a train and delivered via truck on the weekend.
These tanks, measuring 13 feet in diameter and 116 feet long, are for the Liquefied Natural Gas Plant expansion.
Officials say the tanks will be slowly lifted off the rail car near Gum Road on Friday, June 20, or Saturday, June 21, with the first tank expected to be transported on Saturday afternoon along U.S. Highway 264 at about 3mph, with an eventual stop at the LNG plant on Old Pactolus Road, and the second tank expected to be transported Sunday afternoon.
This move will require closing some of the lanes and rerouting traffic, which will be done in coordination with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Impacted roads include Gum Road, NC Highways 11 and 33, Old Pactolus Road, and the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and U.S. Highway 264.
