Standing Together From the Atlantic to the Indo-Pacific

  1. Emmanuel Macron seems to want to resurrect “non-alignment”. While we understand Europe’s need to assert itself, Gaullist rhetoric is not entirely convincing. The Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific theaters are interconnected; the Allies need to stand together.

  2. I hope EU doesnt turn into the HRE, that would be a sad end to a promising experiment.

  3. The French have been particularly delusional about “non-alignment” with the US. It was Macron himself who declared NATO “brain dead.” For all the attention Trump gets, it’s important to remember that it was Europe that abandoned the alliance first in spirit and in substance. Europe not only declined to align with the US in the Pacific, but also failed to deter, and even enabled, Russia aggression. Europe doesn’t want to support the US in Asia, but it expects and needs the US to protect them. It turns out that non-alignment cuts both ways. Europe needs to acknowledge that its own failures as a security partner lead to this crisis, especially if Europeans must now rely primarily on each other.
