The democrats have been relying on we’re better than the alternative for a long time.
And it’s not really working and has landed us with a really really bad alternative.
We need a progressive party. It could be the democrats or it could be a different party, don’t care which.
A third party only works if we get rid of first past the post. Otherwise we split the vote and end up with the opposition in control.
I’m sorry, but everyone in this country should agree that not just a third party is needed, but a fourth and a fifth party as well. We need as many different factions as we can get. Anyone who can’t see that is an idiot.
Parliamentary system looking great rn
Runoff voting first. Third parties afterwards.
Create a third party which will be basically the exact same coalition as democrats but without black voters. Great way to hand supermajorities to the GOP
Yes let’s split the Democratic Party so we can absolutely ensure the Republicans win everything.
That’s a good way to make sure Republicans stay in power forever.
I want a labor party.
Also, almost half of democrats are so bad at basic math that they’ll hand the next several elections to republicans trying to make a third party happen.
Splitting the Democrat party into two different parties, the original and this new third party, would be a Republican’s ultimate fulfilled fantasy. All of the agitation aimed at driving internal chaos in the Democratic party is specifically to create subgroups of Democrats who will stay home and not vote when they don’t see a candidate that meets their own definitions as being worthy of their votes. Republicans have spent a lot of money and effort discouraging Democratic voters, and it’s paid off handsomely as now Trump is in office and literally destroying America.
If Cuomo gets the nomination in new York, I see many fed up people giving up on the Democrats ever changing
We need ranked choice voting.
But I also could see the same conversation happening on the right. There is a huge difference between what the Republicans used to be and the lunatic fringe they have become synonymous with now.
No one asked me. Let me tip that scale to “Over” half.
We have other parties. We need ranked choice voting to make them viable.
We dont need another party. We need to get money out of our government.
I’ll second that, first they have to change the system so third parties are viable, and the only ones that can do that are the ones currently in office. 🙄
Each party should split into two separate parties a bat-shit crazy party and center-left or center-right. Then each side has their own party for extremists and for normal folks. And the ones with the most votes win.
Problem solved.
If anything this just goes to show further how bad the situation is for Democrats now. If this poll is correct then they have major issues. Splitting the party would essentially guarantee Republican victory for many years to come.
The issue isn’t that we need to fracture into two parties but that the Democratic party is bizarrely and disastrously led by a ton of out of touch ANCIENT people that have absolutely no connection to the current will of the voters. Ousting David Hogg from the DNC for *mildly* criticizing the party’s direction should have been a huge wake up call.
The real message here isn’t that a third party is necessary. The real message is that democrats need to change. I would have voted yes in this survey even though I also realize a party split just would screw us all over and let republicans win. It’s taken nearly a decade of missteps by party leadership and slights/attacks towards the left, but I’m not a happy democrat right now and am increasingly open to alternative ideas. The last year in particular has been especially bad. Ranked choice voting is the obvious answer but I suspect both parties will move against it as it begins to threaten their power, like we’ve already seen from the right.
It won’t work unless our entire political system changes and we don’t have a president anymore.
Otherwise the third party would just steal votes from whatever party they are closer to on the spectrum. Therefore actually hurting that party
Cool but Repubs still gonna vote Repub. Just going to end up splitting votes from the old blues, the progressives and whoever else is there. Republicans still gonna win hard in those circumstances
Ranked choice voting is the way to make this realistic.
We need ranked choice, several more parties, and maybe something like Scottish parliament where the percentage of the population in each party is reflected in the ratio of representatives each party has in the legislature. This winner-takes-all biparty system has been a prison.
Ranked voting to keep the process more democratic.
A third party would mean democrats would never win again. Republican base is far more unified (much to their own detriment) than the Dem base is
An actual left wing party and not three centrists in a trench coat cosplaying as one?
Literal Russian propaganda lmfao. They have been peddling the third part BS with their Green Party stooges for decades now.
Let’s break up the party so the republicans have a better chance of winning
Now is not the time for this.
