Niall Ferguson and Yoav Gallant: Israel Has Done Most of the Job. Only Trump Can Finish It.

In a piece for *The Free Press* coauthored with Yoav Gallant, the former Israeli minister of defense, Senior Fellow [Niall Ferguson](https://www.hoover.org/profiles/niall-ferguson) argues that the job of taking out Iran’s deeply buried Fordow uranium enrichment site can only be completed by the United States, and only one man can decide to take such action: President Trump. “Fordow is built into the mountains near Qom, encased under at least 300 feet of limestone,” note the authors. In his former role Gallant “devoted considerable time and effort to considering” the possible ways Israel could disable Fordow alone; he and his colleagues in the Israeli defense establishment concluded they could not succeed without US assistance. “Only one air force has the power to finish off Fordow. The United States designed and built the GBU 57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) precisely for such a task,” and only American B-2 Spirit bombers can deliver this powerful munition. Gallant and Ferguson conclude, “This is a rare moment when strategic alignment and operational momentum converge. It must not be missed.”

2. I’ve said it before, but if Israel manages to drag the US into its war it will be a total foreign policy coup.

3. I kind of doubt that. Surely using US bombs to destroy fordow would be the cleanest and easiest way, but I can’t imagine that Israel went into this without a plan for finishing it. They have been planning this for literally decades and we’ve already seen them pull multiple rabbits out of the hat; I believe they have a plan for fordow even if the US won’t join.

Other than the Lindsey Grahams, and Nokki Haleys of the world, the right is much more interventionist atm, sadly I think President Trump threw in his lot with them but even JD Vance is quietly pushing the anti-interventionism stance, tulsi Gabbard is also dead set on the intelligence she has recieved that Iran wasnt presuing a nuke, Tucker Carlson is dead set against neocon interventionism in the region, and more critical of Israel than the Lindsey Grahams and Nikki Haleys of this world, thomas massie and Rabd Paul are dead set of war against iran the abuse of presidential powers regarding war (ie – for returning it back to congress oer article 1 of the constitution), Cabdace Owen’s has broken from Trump over Gaza, Iran and so fourth, Oreaident Trump needs to remember the base was against the neocons and neo-liberal interventions in Libya, Syria, the Arab Spring, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzagavnia, the disasterous forever wars and mission creep interventions in Afghanistan, and Iraq, and against intervention in Ukraine, even Vivek Ramaswamy who served as apart of DOGE with Elon Musk is dead set against more interventionism, it not 2003 no more the necons are hated by all poltical factions in the usa, and Trump would be down right stupid throwing in his lot with them, a war in Iran would have no coalition of the willing, no victory parade in Tehran, the straights of harmouz would be severely disrupted, most countries in the global south would oppose (despite some on R/Geopoltics hatred of these folks) , mist in Eyrope wouldnt go along, the Gulf nations while no fans of Iran or the Mullahs wouldbt fund or provide troops for such a dangerous adventure, China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Egypt, Jordan, the Vatican , among others would surely oppose it, it would basically be us, Israel and maybe Al-sharaa govt in Syria, the Kurds in the region, and maybe Azerbaijan, wow such success 🤔🙄

8. Only the Iranian people can finish it, they need to make steps for a meaningful change within their country. We all know the regime isn’t as popular as they make it out to be, the US should really be careful on how it decides to move forward with this otherwise it may ultimately rally the Persian people against the US.
