  1. I mean both Nintendo and Sony are Japanese companies, and both have many games tailored towards the Japanese market, whereas XBOX is tailored towards the Western market. Not really surprising imo

  2. 37 million Switch sales is insanity when you consider their population is c.120 million

  3. And yet, PC(Windows) gaming in Japan is increasing, capturing about 20% of the market now by some reports.

The new rumored Xbox console strategy of unlocked consoles that allow 3rd party stores might finally get some xbox popularity in Japan.

  4. I’m a gamedev working in Japan.

I’ve seen more xbox controllers on PCs than actual xboxes lol

  5. The Japanese PlayStation and Nintendo libraries are way larger than they are in the West. Meanwhile, Xbox has much fewer translated titles in Japan than in other countries.

  6. Cool data, but man, that y-axis needs decimals/periods or just to be in millions of units instead of ones of units.

  7. Some feedback on data presentation:

You want to highlight the xBox data so it stands out. (You might even want to color all bars by the producer: Nintendo, Sony, and MS)

Next, check your number formatting. I’d either reduce to Millions, or have commas in your numbers.

Third, sort your bars from highest to lowest

You can really accentuate the data massively by doing these couple of things.

  8. Xbox tried with the 360 to win over Japanese audiences with tons of exclusive JRPGs and then they just gave up after that failed.
