By the end of this year all government related computers will not be running Windows or any other microsoft products. Now the Danish government is going to switch to Free and Open Source Software. One can only wish the rest of us could follow.

  1. This is gonna be anything but a smooth transition. But yeah, gotta give it to the Danes, rare W

  2. And remember guys, Linux and the web were made in Europe. The L4 microkernel designed in a German university runs in billions of embedded devices.

  3. This is just outright false information. The government deciding to replace Microsoft Windows on all public sector-computers would normally warrant an headline or two, but I have had to wade through articles in Danish newspapers just to find anything relating to what you’re writing. I think you have misinterpreted some statements of interest from small parts of the public sector in untying themselves from Microsoft? One single government ministry – the new, small and totally irrelevant Ministry for Digitalisation – has begun experimenting with phasing out *Microsoft Office*, but they have literally denied that they’re are swapping out Microsoft Windows.

Government computers will still be running Microsoft by the end of 2025. Switching out the software of all computers in under six months would not even be remotely feasible.

  4. Linux is one of the greatest european technological feats. Glad to see it made its way back. Hopefully this spreads!

  5. Pfff. Amateurs. We’ve had multiple cities and states switch to open source. Some multiple times even.

  6. Linux is never a win… unless your goal is to NOT attract woman.

  7. And you use the mascot of a Swedish Finn’s system to portray this
