The busy race schedule did take its toll on Meeus. “I was feeling a bit exhausted after six tough days of racing in Switzerland, but I still had some power left,” said the winner, who did not expect to win, especially after a strong breakaway with Daan Hoole, among others. “It was a very strong breakaway, and we knew catching them on the local circuit would be difficult. But my team and some other teams did a great job. It was a grueling final, but I’m glad I was able to win.”

Meeus timed it perfectly: “I knew there was a headwind”
Meeus was nowhere to be seen in the sprint, but he timed his sprint perfectly and beat Dylan Groenewegen, among others. “It was very hectic, and if I could have chosen, I would have been a little further forward for the last corner. But I knew there was a headwind, and I had to hope that gaps would open up in front of me. That happened perfectly, and I still had a good sprint left.”
