Hi everyone,
Whenever I go on vacation or even just to the Belgian coast, I always find myself a bit jealous of the people out sailing. I've always enjoyed boat trips and being out on the water, and sailing has always looked like a lot of fun, even though I've never actually tried it myself.
Now, as an adult, I'd really like to learn how to sail. But before committing to a full course, I’d love to try a short initiation to see if it’s really something for me.
After doing some research online, I came across this organization that offers a 2-day beginner sailing initiation for adults:
Vlaamse Vaarschool – Initiatiecursus
Has anyone here had a good experience with them?
Do you think this kind of course would be a good way to get a feel for sailing?
And do you have any other recommendations or tips on how to start learning to sail as an adult?
Thanks in advance!

You can have some lessons at the KLYC in Antwerp. They give private lessons to adults on Galgenweel lake.
Never heard of them, but it looks okay.
With “learning to sail” it heavily depends on what type of boat of course.
You have some local clubs sometimes that engage together, but the bigger boats are sometimes a bit of an elite crowd attractor.
For theoretical courses I highly recommend: https://offshore-navigation.be/nl
KYC (Koksijde) SYCOD (ODK) or KYCN (Nieuwpoort) are the ones I know of.
Yesterday saw the boats of Vlaamse Vaarschool in Nieuwpoort out. I don’t sail myself.
I actually did that initiation course. Was happy with it and was interesting. Second day we had bad luck with the weather, so went out for only a short sail, but then the instructor switched to harbor manoeuvres, which was also good to know.
After that I decided to get my license. Did theory with another company (forgot which one), but did my practical training on a motorboat again with them. Also very happy with that.
Have a look at these guys: [https://www.c-masters.nl/rya-training-centre-sailing-school-nieuwpoort-belgium](https://www.c-masters.nl/rya-training-centre-sailing-school-nieuwpoort-belgium)
They are on my short list. Was looking at doing Yachtmaster with them, then one thing led to another and I’m into something else, for now. But C-Masters will be my first choice when I get back in the sailing game.
You can also do theory at your own pace with [https://www.navathome.com](https://www.navathome.com)
Following, as I’ve considered to take a course as well.
Alternatively could also go for a wind surfing course.
I’m a private instructor, feel free to reach out, even if it’s just for information about schools or clubs!
Sail you for the first, Then you make a flater. Pull it you not on. Go on because later, You enjoy it all the more, Of wind and of water.
