Florida politicians and leaders reacted Saturday to news that the U.S. military with Israel, struck three nuclear sites in Iran. “The United States is on the cusp of war with Iran, yet the American people have been given no proactive explanation, no evidence, and no clarity about why,” stated Florida Rep. Anna Eskamani, whose parents immigrated to the U.S. from Iran. “Donald Trump has never let us down.” Republican Congressman Randy Fine said. “This is what peace through strength looks like,” Florida Sen. Rick Scott said. Bombs 3 nuclear sites and then says, “Now is the time for peace,” Congressman Maxwell Frost said. “I think what’s more normal is for presidents to prepare the country more for conflict,” said John Hanley who is an associate lecturer at University of Central Florida’s political science department. “It’s rather surprising to see the country move into this posture so quickly.”Hanley said Congress members are divided on Trump’s decision because of what history has shown. “There are a lot of people out there who have personal experience in the region with this type of conflict and they have firm beliefs about what went wrong,” Hanley said. “Some people say, wait a minute, you promised that you’re not going to start another Middle Eastern war like a lot of other presidents have,” said Dr. Houman Sadri, an associate political science professor at UCF. Sadri, who is Iranian and has visited the country numerous times, teaches international relations. “We are going to see within the next 24 to 48 hours what are they going to do?” Sadri said.U.S. bases are on high alert. ” is also concerned about Iranian missiles or something hitting, one of the bases that we have either in Iraq or in one of the Persian Gulf countries,” Sadri said. “This is something that we can just negotiate. We can’t resolve it with military situation.”
